Obituary of Evelyn Gatton

EVELYN GATTON A graveside service will be held for Evelyn Gatton Tuesday, November 26th at 11 A.M. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 P.M. at the Terraces in Chico. Evelyn passed away in Chico Tuesday, November 19th at the age of 98. Born December 20, 1914 in Iowa , she attended high school in Iowa and several semester of college with aspirations to teach art but was not able to finish due to the Depression. She married Bruce Gatton in 1935. In 1944, near the end of WWII, Bruce was stationed at the Chico Airbase and they decided to make Chico their home. In the 1960's Evelyn worked for the Children's Home Society and later for Chico State University in the CSU Chico School of Business Graduate Office where she worked until her retirement in 1979. After her husband's death in 1992 she moved to the Terraces where she greatly enjoyed her friends and activities. "Evie" as she was known, was a quilter, loved Bingo, Bridge and especially crossword puzzles. She was a great reader and was always up to date on current events. She will be remembered for being full of life and for her wicked sense of humor! She dearly loved her family and her friends at the Terraces . Evelyn is survived by her daughter Linda Gatton and her husband Charles Dunn of Chico, a granddaughter Caitlin Cassaro, and husband Zach Hochkeppel of Brooklyn, New York, her great grandchildren Rosey and Shane, and foster daughter Marina Ellis and her husband Morgan of Idaho, and their children Colter and Jesse. Her family would like to express their gratitude to California Park Rehab for their care and compassion.
