Obituary of Richard Pitsker

On August 31, 2008, Richard Allan Pitsker lost his difficult fight with brain cancer. Born September 28, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut, he lived most of his life in northern California. After one year in college, he enlisted in the Marines and volunteered for a tour in Vietnam. He served honorably and was discharged in June 1968. He went back to college and graduated from Chico State with a degree in Physical Education and minor in Biology. He then got his teaching credential in 1975. Ric started his teaching and coaching career at Chico Junior High, then transferred to Chico High and eventually ended his career retiring from Pleasant Valley High this year. He coached freshman, junior varsity and varsity football as well as wrestling, and track. He had many successful and wonderful teams. His true passion was coaching and inspiring individual athletes to do their very best. He loved being around kids and watching them grow and improve in whatever their sport or event. Besides being a great coach and teacher he was an amazing and loving husband and father. He will be terribly missed by his wife of thirty years, Diane and two daughters, Carrie and Stacy. Ric was a very humble, modest man and never liked attention brought to him. Therefore, he did not want a memorial. His passion for sports lives on with his family and students. Condolences may be sent online at www.BrusieFH.com. Donations may be made to the Ric Pitsker memorial endowment fund which will benefit sports at both Chico and Pleasant Valley High, 1475 East Ave., 95926.
