Obituary of Lena Carpenter

LENA COSTA CARPENTER July 9, 1920 - Jan. 25, 2011 Lena Costa was born on July 9, 1920 in the little town of Nord, CA, the second of three sisters. Her family later moved to Chico, where she attended local schools, graduating from Chico Senior High School in 1937. In June 1944, she married Claud F. Carpenter. Among her most memorable jobs were as a waitress, during WWII, at Walker's. In-between in Hamilton City, as an alterations lady for M. Oser & Co. and as a secretary for Al-Bea-Co Distributors. Lena enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and had a true green thumb, resurrecting plants others had given up on. She had a flair for fashion and was an excellent seamstress. She was an avid reader, especially interested in health and nutrition. She was a person best defined by her dedication to and love for her family and friends. Lena is survived by her stepson, Jack F. Carpenter; son, Rick (Trina) Carpenter; daughter, Joan (Larry) Kreider; grandson, Jesse (Sarah) Carpenter; great-granddaugher, Amarie Carpenter and numerous step-grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. There will be a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at Brusie Funeral Chapel and a graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.
