Obituary of Paul Henson

Paul Harrold Henson completed his work here on July 26, 2012. He was born in Gurdon, Arkansas on December 8, 1927, to Frank and Minnie (Beulah) Henson, the fourth of five children. He grew up in Arkadelphia and Pine Bluff. Paul served proudly in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he discharged at Port Hueneme and settled in Southern California, where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Isabel Tait. There the couple had two sons, Steve and Tracy. In 1959 the family moved to Paradise, California. Paul spent most of his adult life as a sheet metal worker. He had a knack for bending, rolling, and folding sheets of metal into amazing shapes and linking them together to build heating and air conditioning duct systems, roofs, gutters, and anything else his customers wanted. He was a creative and skilled craftsman. He designed and built three homes and a houseboat, the latter from plans contained entirely in his head. In addition to his family and his work, Paul loved waterskiing and baseball. As a young man he played semi-pro ball, and later he enjoyed coaching local Pony and Babe Ruth League teams. He was a lifelong Dodger fan and followed them religiously. Paul retired from sheet metal and spent the last years of his working life as Senior Maintenance Worker at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico. After the boys grew up and left the nest, he and Barbara moved to Forest Ranch and then to Chico. Paul is survived by his wife Barbara and sons Steve and Tracy, his sister Carolyn, grandchildren Holly, Heidi, David, and Craig, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on August 16 at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, preceded by visitation from 5-8 p.m. August 15 at Brusie Funeral Home.
