Obituary of Barbara Jean Coito

Barbara Jean Coito passed away in her home on June 30. Barbara was born in Phoenix Arizona to James and Freda Palmer on May 9, 1930. She was raised in Laveen, Arizona with her sister Joann Maxwell (deceased). During the war in the 40's her father worked out of the area for long periods of time. She and her mother and sister kept the ranch going, raising chickens and selling eggs. In 1949, she married Ken Doss Sr. Together they had two children, Ken Doss Jr, and Patti Anderson. The young family moved to Chico in 1953 along with other family members. Her husband was killed in an accident in 1961 so she became a young single mother. With the help of her family and friends, she did well and had a lot of support. On November 16, 1963, she married Glenn Coito in Reno Nevada. They were married over 50 years. They had one son - Tony Coito. Together they had a business, Coito Shelling Plant, and then Coito Printing. They worked together many years. Barbara volunteered for over 15 years in the Burn Center of the former Chico Community Hospital. They also were involved in local service clubs including Pilot Club and Exchange Club. They made many friends there. Glenn died in March 2017. Barbara moved to a local retirement community. She made many friends there. She was known for playing pinochle and other card games. The last time she played pinochle, she and her partner got a double run, two hands in a row. That was unheard of.mm She has six grandchildren: Robbie Anderson, Kenny Doss III, Anthony J Coito, Kayla Coito, Dylan Coito, and Jenna Coito. She also has seven great grandchildren. Anyone who knew her heard that her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She never missed any birthdays. Barbara was a very strong woman. She was mothering her kids and grandkids right up to her final moments. Per her wishes, a family graveside service will be held. She will be buried alongside her husband Glenn. Arrangements are under the care of Brusie Funeral Home.
