Obituary of Nancy Eileen Shiba

Nancy Eileen Shiba, a native Californian and longtime resident of Sacramento and Chico died peacefully on July 11, 2021. Nancy was a loving daughter, sister, auntie, and niece. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, complete honesty, compassion towards others (especially children and animals), and an inspiring love of life. She lived a life in which each day was a joyful opportunity to discover beauty and the wonders of this earth. She loved to color, do crossword puzzles, and sing, and was known for her full-body laughter. Some of her favorites were The Muppets, Star Trek (especially Spock), Emergency, Disneyland, reading her bible, and anything that had to do with penguins! Nancy was born to Kiyohiko and Lydia Shiba in Sacramento, CA on November 8, 1967. She was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome and had multiple heart surgeries throughout her life. She loved school, enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, was devoted to her work at La Bou Bakery and Café in Sacramento, and loved her friends in Chico at the 7th Street Center for Creative Arts. Growing up, Nancy was the center of our family, and we were all so proud of her when she graduated from McClatchy High School. She leaves behind her brother David and sister-in-law Debra of Chico, Ca, sister Kathie and brother-in-law Jeff of Maryville, TN, and brother Kenneth of Sacramento.CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kiyohiko and Lydia Shiba of Sacramento, CA. Nancy will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews: Rebecca of Sacramento, CA, Sara and Jeff of Louisville, KY, Ty of Richman, CA, Michael and Bonnie of Richmond Hill, GA, Sarah and Brent of Spring Hill, TN, Crystal and Brad of Lafayette, LA, Debra Marie and Tony of Chico, CA, Bryan of San Francisco, CA, Steven of Boca Raton, FL, and Jacob of Maryville, TN, as well as by her 11 great-nieces and nephews. Nancy loved learning about their latest adventures and playing with them during family gatherings. A graveside memorial service and interment of her ashes will be held at the family plot at Smith Mountain Cemetery (Dinuba, CA), August 14, 2021 at 10:00am. In addition, we will be honoring the lives of her uncles, George Shiba, who passed away on May 27, 2021 and Ben Shiba, who passed away on June 14, 2021. Following the memorial at Smith Mountain Cemetery, there will be a celebration of life reception lunch in Orosi, CA.
