Obituary of Barbara Jean Jenkins

Barbara Doris Jean Jenkins was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 4th, 1932 to Nathan Elijah Stewart and Betty Lou, Virginia, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Rebecca Stewart. Barbara peaceably departed this life on July 22, 2021, surrounded by her children. Barbara shared many fond memories of her childhood. Her father was an avid hunter, hardworking and provided for the family of six children. Her mother was a homemaker and taught Barbara how to cook, and sew. Her parents taught her to love and respect others and treat others as she would want to be treated. Barbara was the oldest of six children. Her mother was sickly so she had the responsibility to cook, clean and care for all her siblings. She counted it as an honor to help her parents and did not complain. Barbara attended Scipio A. Jones High School and completed up to the 10th grade. She married young, at the age of 16, George Jones (deceased) and later moved to Oroville, California. Several years later she met Jacob Jenkins (deceased) the love of her life and married around 1973 and had three children with him. She was a homemaker, worked at the Cannery, Convalescent Hospital and California State University, Chico and retired from Chico State as a Lead Custodian Supervisor at the dorms. Barbara had many talents and gifts. She was an amazing writer of short plays, skits and poems. Her plays had a heartfelt message of Love, forgiveness and promoting good character. She was a natural storyteller who was animated while she drew you in and and always ended the story with her unforgettable laugh. She loved to sing, draw, camping, the beach , flowers and traveling the scenic routes. She was humble and had a heart that drew people to her when she first met them. She was accepting of others and was a friend, sister, and mother to many. She loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Oro Vista Baptist Church and sang in the choir several years. She had many sisters in the Lord and her last year's she shared precious friendships with the Lemonade Ladies at the Neighborhood Church that she was a member of. She loved her family and friends and being around people. She was endeared by many and best of all she was a phenomenal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Nathan and Betty Stewart and siblings Dorothy, Eddie Stewart, John Paul Stewart, son Gregory Jones, her first husband George Jones, the father of her six children. She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved and dedicated husband Jacob "sugar" Jenkins who she has joined. She also leaves her children George Jones Jr., Mervyn Jones, Kathy McBroom, Carlos Jones, Michael Dean Jones, Tony Jones, Adrian Jenkins, Michelle Doswell, Chelsea Jenkins, Fred Jenkins, Rhonda Murray, Joel Jenkins, Leighton Jenkins, Kevin Jenkins, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sisters Gloria Davidson, Inez Roe and sister-in-laws Marian walker, Edna William's, Crystal Briggs and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Barbara was proud and honored to be the matriarch, grandmother and great-grandmother to our large family. She has been a strong presence in all of our lives and cherished her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family, extended family and numerous friends. Although our hearts are very heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven rejoicing and singing with the Lord and in His presence.
