Obituary of Nina May Foster Jones

On Sunday, August 1, 2021, Nina Foster Jones passed away at 95 years of age. She was born Nina May Hanson, October 16, 1925, in Harrah, Oklahoma. Her family then moved to South Dakota, where she graduated from the Watertown high school in 1943. She attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene Oregon and Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City. While attending MCC, she married Bill Lorack in 1947. They moved to Indiana and eventually settled in California where they raised four children, moving to Chico in 1962. Later Nina married Robert Foster in 1989, who preceded her in death in1993. She then married Mel Jones in 2009, who also preceded her in death in 2019. Bill Lorack died in 2016. She is survived by her children: Karen Lorack Mitchell of Bloomington IL; Stephen Lorack (Karen Eberwein) of Half Moon Bay, CA; Janet Lappie (David) of Weaverville, NC; Philip Lorack (Alicia) of Williamsburg, VA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Elizabeth Krug of Indianapolis, IN; Rachel Rasines (Nick) of Atherton, CA; Judith Guy of Mackinaw IL; Jill Avasthi (Antik) of Livermore, CA; Kimberly Guy of Bloomington IN; Alexander and Zachary Lappie of Swannanoa NC; Bella and Ryan Lorack of Williamsburg VA; and one great granddaughter Charlotte Rasines of Atherton, CA. She was preceded in death by five siblings and is survived by her sister Jeanne Hanson of Wichita, KS, and brother Raymond Hanson of Port Angeles, WA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Nina worked many years for the Chico Unified School District, first as a volunteer, and then at Chico Junior High School, and later at the District office, retiring after more than 25 years. She was very active in her church, having served on the board, as an elder, in the women's group and especially singing in the choir, as she loved music. Nina was also active in the Butte-Glenn Medical Auxiliary and volunteered at Enloe hospital after her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, sewing, knitting, any kind of word puzzle, and anything to do with Southern Gospel Music. A Celebration of Nina's life will be held at First Christian Church at 295 East Washington Ave. in Chico, California at 11:00am in the sanctuary, on what would have been her 96th birthday, Saturday, October 16. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Christian Church of Chico.
