Obituary of Rocco Louis Iannone

Rocco Louis Iannone, 90, of Chico, Ca passed away peacefully at home August 29, 2021.  Born June 16, 1931 in Rome, New York to Louis and Kathrine Iannone he and his family traveled by train to Chico when he was 29.  Rocco and his father established a two man landscaping business.  Rocco’s love of gardening was as a business and recreation.  When at home, Rocco was always raking, pruning, or watering something.

Rocco was not a home body; he loved people and being out and about in the community.  Rocco was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, The Italian Catholic Federation, and SIRS.  Rocco had many hobbies and loved to be at the “ballpark” playing senior softball or at the bowling alley.  Shortly before his 90th birthday Rocco bowled his first “turkey” (three strikes in a row).  Rocco was inducted into the senior softball Hall of Fame, an achievement he was very proud of.

There were no strangers in Rocco’s world.  Everyone was a friend or future friend; you could find him sitting on his porch greeting everyone who passed. Every day was a good day filled with kind words and unconditional love for those around him.

Rocco was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Louis Iannone.  He is survived by his cousins Maria Reynolds (Scott Miller), Quinci Reynolds (Miles Hohlenkamp) and the large family of friends he made during his 60 years in Chico.

Rocco, you will be deeply missed.

Mass will be held at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church September 18th at 9AM; private burial to follow.

The Men’s Senior Softball League will be hosting a celebration of life for Rocco on October 16th, at 10AM Sycamore Field.
