Obituary of Alma Irene Edgar

A graveside service for Alma Maas Edgar, 94 of Chico, will be held at 1 pm Thursday December 2, at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. She died Monday, November 22, 2021 in Chico.

Alma was born November 4, 1927, to Gotthilf and Rosa Maas in Orland California. She graduated from Hamilton City High School in 1946. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Chico and began her career as a Switchboard Operator for the Telephone Company. She met her future husband while working at the phone company and she married Lloyd Edgar in 1951. They were married for 47 years.

Alma spent many summers fishing and vacationing at Lake Almanor. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, and included visits to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. She loved to garden and grow vegetables and fruit trees of many varieties. She was a member of many clubs, and groups. She volunteered at Emma Wilson School, and was a member of the Grand jury.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ben, Arnold, Alvin and sister Dora. Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Block (Steven) of Yuba City; a grandson Julian Block of Las Vegas Nevada; a granddaughter Ariel Block of Chico, and many nieces, nephews, and “greats!” Visitation will be from 10-12 Thursday morning December 2, at Brusie Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the American Heart Association
