Thomas Devlin

Obituary of Thomas Douglas Devlin

Thomas (Tom) Douglas Devlin was born in Chico California on January 10, 1948, to Edith (Wallen) and Thomas (Ted) Devlin. He attended Chico High School followed by serving in the Army and fighting in the Vietnam War. Although his time in Vietnam forever impacted his life, he was proud to have served and loved his country to the fullest. As a Sergeant of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry Division, Tom was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 3 bronze service stars), Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Expert Badge and the Sharpshooter Badge.

Tom went on to have a few marriages and more than a few kids, grandkids, and even great grandkids. His family was his world and what kept him going each day. He spent his career as a PG&E Lineman alongside many of his best friends. If he wasn’t working, he was hunting. It didn’t matter the season or the animal– if there was a chance to hunt, he wasn’t going to miss it. His favorite stories typically involved hunting with his brothers Mark and Kevin, his son Buck and a steady group of hunting buddies. As his health and age began to catch up, he found comfort and joy in the arms of his kids’ hugs – which he made sure to get every day like clockwork. It was that same comfort from his kids he was surrounded by when he made his final journey on December 27, 2021.
