Obituary of Wallace Edward Reiswig

Wallace Edward Reiswig (1927-2022)

Wallace Edward Reiswig (Wally) passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Chico California on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the age of 94.

Wally was born August 14, 1927 in Lodi California to Edward and Lillian Reiswig. He grew up in South San Francisco and Hamilton City, California.

He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 until 1946 where he was stationed in the Philippines in 1945 when WWII ended.  When he returned to Chico, he met Marilyn Lowry in the Senator Candy shop and they married November 5, 1950.  They resided in Chico and were married for over 71 years. Together they raised six children. Wally owned and operated Wally’s Tree Service and Claro Walnut Gunstock Company for over 50 years. His gunstocks were sold to Winchester and numerous private gunsmiths from around the world. Wally was a talented wood worker that loved to share his talents with others. He taught his children, grandchildren and others how to turn bowls, candle holders and various wood projects using mostly walnut.

Wally enjoyed outdoors in the mountains hunting, fishing, camping and hiking with family and friends. He looked forward to going on his annual hunting “Camping” trip with his best friend Vern Hunerlach as well as many friends and neighbors.  He was a Boy Scout Master for troop 230 for about ten years. Many of his scouts have fond memories of Wally and the adventures they had on their fifty mile backpacking trips. He had fond memories of attending the annual Reiswig/Baumbach family picnic in Lodi.

He enjoyed spending time in his fruit orchard, vegetable and rose gardens. He grew the best tomatoes of anyone. He was a proud grandfather to his seven grandchildren.  He loved celebrating all of their life accomplishments with each and every one.
