Obituary of Gerald Edward Gonsalves

Gerald Gonsalves, 80, beloved husband, father and grandfather peacefully passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022, in Chico, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 
Gerry was born on June 21, 1941, to George and Mary Gonsalves in New Bedford, Massachusetts. His family moved to Fort Bragg, California when he was 8.  He attended Santa Rosa Jr. College and moved to Chico in 1968 to be a manager at the JC Penny store.   After working at JC Penny for 10 years, Gerry owned several businesses, including:  Leather and Luggage, Glen Hague Furniture Restoration, Gordon Bros. Puzzle Manufacturing and The Yogurt Cup.  
In 1979 Gerry married Sharon Peterson, whom he affectionately renamed “Charlie”.
Gerry was an active member of Chico Noon Exchange Club for over 30 years. He was also a dedicated blood donor, receiving an award for donations totaling 10 gallons.   For over 20 years he planned and oversaw the Fort Bragg High School’s Annual Reunion Picnic.
People will remember Gerry as a great man, with a huge heart.  He was an outgoing, friendly guy who loved his family and ice cream.   
Gerry leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Sharon “Charlie”, son Brian Gonsalves (Loretta), daughter Elizabeth Boyle (John), brother Ronald Gonsalves, stepson Michael Peterson, granddaughters Mallory and Macy Boyle, niece Robin Rotenkolber (Steve), nephew David Gonsalves, grandnephews Billy and Kevin Rotenkolber, grandniece Katie Rotenkolber and great grandnephew Bennett Rotenkolber. 
A funeral service will be held for Gerry on Friday, March 18th at 1 p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home followed by a graveside service and reception.
