Obituary of Carol Anita Sanders
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Carol Sanders of Chico, age 79, on Friday, September 30th at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 12:00 noon. Carol died at Enloe Hospital on Monday, September 19th, with family in attendance.
Born in Santa Monica, CA to Charles and Amy Hancock, Carol was raised in W. Los Angeles where she graduated from University High School in 1961. After completing her studies at Santa Barbara Community College, Carol became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and practiced “the healing arts” throughout her life, both professionally and as the mother of three boys.
Arriving in 1970, Carol loved the Chico area and called Butte County home for 52 years. She and her husband, Robert D. Sanders, farmed almonds in Durham before moving back to Chico in 1987. Carol was a skilled creator of arts and crafts. She owned “Carol’s Calico Creations” in downtown Chico where she also taught quilting classes.
Above all, Carol will be remembered for her steadfast love and generosity. She treasured her children and grandchildren and could never spend enough time with them. She was never content that anyone be “left out”. She never forgot a birthday, nor did she forget to remind you to remember someone else’s birthday. The consummate peacemaker, she was always eager to reconcile. Carol taught us all how to love by word and example. She was a believing Christian throughout her life, with a firm but quiet faith, and died in communion with the Catholic Church.
Carol is survived by her sister, Julie (Jim) Slark; her three sons Jeff (LeXuan) Culbreath, Jason (Rochelle) Culbreath, Jory Culbreath, and their father, Jeffrey L. Culbreath; her three step-daughters Sheri (Tom) Nix, Lonna Sanders, and Lisa (Randy) Becker; her grandchildren Jonathan (Greta), Amy, Christopher, Amanda, Anne, Theodore, Jordan, Dane, Grace, Justin (Alexis), Sarah (Lucas), Alex, Aaron, Ryan, and Maranda; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Brusie Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm on Thursday evening, September 29, with a Rosary at 7:00pm.
