Obituary of Roy Carrington

Roy Carrington, 82, of Chico, California, peacefully passed away on October 19th.

Roy was born on February 17th, 1940 in Centralia, Washington and lived in Chico for the past 50+ years. His parents, Clyde and Juanita Carrington, raised three boys and three girls. After Roy graduated from Triangle Lake High School in Blachly, Oregon in 1958, he served for three years in the U.S Army as a Military Police (MP) officer stationed in Korea.

In 1963, Roy married Shirley Miller and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Soon after marrying, they started a family and had 5 boys: Rob, Darren, Kevin, Tony, and Dan. While working full time to support his growing family, he earned his Associate’s degree in Business from Shasta Community College in Redding in 1968. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Business, focusing on accounting, from Chico State in 1970.

Roy took great pride partnering with small business owners to help them grow during his 45+ year career in accounting and small business management. For the last 30 years, he created and ran his own businesses (including Human Resource Solutions) and managed a large almond farm in a family estate.

After recently retiring, he enjoyed taking short motorhome trips with Shirley, growing fruit trees in his yard, and spending time with his family including his sons, daughters-in-law, and 11 grandchildren. Roy was a beloved father and grandfather, who instilled a strong work ethic in his family. Roy had a lifelong passion for entrepreneurship and left a strong legacy in the family he and Shirley created.
