Obituary of Dianna Sue Buerger

DIANNA SUE BUERGER

“Known to Many – Loved by All”

Dianna Sue Buerger, 75, of Chico CA passed away on January 12, 2023 surrounded by her son and husband.  She was born Oct 2, 1947 to Clarence and Barbara Jean (Lieb) Quakenbush in Riverside Ca.  Dianna lived in her young years in Corona at her grandparents, Oscar and Mahalia Lieb’s,  dairy farm, enjoying the farm life and animals until she was seven.

She married Bill Buerger in 1968 and had two children: Lea and Toby.  After her divorce, she lived in Palo Alto and worked as an administrative assistant at Stanford University.  Towards the end of the 1970s she moved to Chico to be closer to her older sister, Linda Jesse, and younger brother, Chuck Freschauf, and families.

Dianna had many interests and types of employment over the next 35 years.  She became an insurance sales manager traveling throughout Northern California, and eventually settled into the healing arts.  She became a certified massage therapist which was an ideal career for an empathic healer.  She was often seen at the Saturday Farmers Market or events with her massage chair.

Dianna had many interests and hobbies.  In earlier years she was part of the 3rd and Main Saturday morning nuclear protests.  A lover of nature she frequently hiked the Yahi Trail, went for a Jan 1st polar bear swim, enjoyed cross country skiing, was a white-water river rafter, canoed often, enjoyed camping, hiked on the Lost Coast with her husband Fred, and went out of her way to jump into hot springs and spas.  Her interests and hobbies included constantly gardening, reading, book clubs, journaling, belly dancing, opera, singing in choirs, playing ukelele, and walking labyrinths.

Her temperament was reserved and polite.  She didn’t swear or know how to tell a lie.  Socially she did not have ulterior motives but was direct and honest.   As a compliment an old friend said of Dianna – ‘what you see is what you get’.  Despite her pleasant personality and wonderful smile; to those who knew her well she was fearless and always ready for another adventure.

Dianna is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jean Freschauf, and her sister, Linda Jessee.  She is survived by her husband, Fred Thomas and her brother Chuck Freschauf (Francine).  She is also survived by daughter Lea Williams (Tony) and her grandchildren by them:  Kyle, Kayla, Alexis, Christian, Jordan, Angeleah, and Anthony Jr and six great-grandchildren.  She also survived by her son Toby Buerger and his daughter Sofia Buerger.  Upon marrying Fred Thomas in 2006 she was able to be the Grandma to his side of the family to Amelia and Addison (Adam and Lorenna Thomas) and Mae, Max and Mark (Jim and Cara Crugnale).

Dianna developed Alzheimer’s five years ago but still had time to travel to Louisiana for an alligator adventure, go rock hounding, and play and sing with her grandchildren.  She was kindly cared for by The Country Village during her final months.
