Obituary of Connie Roy Gainer

Connie Dignan Roy Gainer was born in Faulkton, SD on March 28,1929 to Vera and Wayne Dignan. She died peacefully surrounded by family on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023.

Connie and her older sister spent the first few years of their life on their grandfather’s cattle ranch before the family moved to Albany, OR to be closer to her mother’s family. Connie graduated high school in Portland and moved to Corvallis to attend Oregon State where she obtained an AA degree then moved to Richland, WA to work at General Electric’s Atomic Energy Works. It was there that Connie met George Roy. Connie and George married and had three daughters in Richland until business called them to Schenectady, NY and then to San Jose, CA to work in the new Nuclear Energy Division of General Electric. After a few years, the family moved to Largo, FL for a short stint then returned to San Jose where their last daughter was born.

In 1971, Connie entered the Real Estate Profession and was among the top seven realtors in the fast-growing San Jose area. After acquiring her Brokers License, she sold commercial real-estate, eventually starting up a Storage Facility management company and owning Hayward Storage. Connie fulfilled her dream of building a beautiful ocean view home in Aptos on the Monterey Bay and welcomed her ever-expanding family to enjoy many vacations and holidays. It was there she joined her beloved PEO, her life-long sisters, and opened her home for community fund-raising events. In 2016, she retired and moved to Chico Terraces to be close to her daughters.

Connie was born with a positive outlook on life and she liked to dream big. In addition to her business, she was always pursuing many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed painting, sculpting, skiing, tennis, golf, sailing, decorating, gardening, cooking, sewing, bridge and travelling.

Family was paramount in Connie’s life maintaining close relationships with her mother, siblings, and their families, leaving a legacy of an extended close-knit family of siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Connie was preceded in death by her three siblings and parents and is survived by her four daughters, Shellie Roy, Cindy (Steve) Heliker, Sharon (Steve) Aby, Becky (Jim) Callas plus nine grandchildren: Sabrina, Bryan, Brett, Haley, Stephanie, Maddy, John, Kelsey and Shannon and six great grandchildren.Connie was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Vera and Dwayne Dignan, Jeanne Fox, Patrick Dignan and Bert Dignan.  

Connie will be interned at Centerville Cemetery after a Catholic Mass at Our Divine Savior on Friday March 3, at 10:30.
