Norma Swenseid

Obituary of Norma Elaine Swenseid

The youngest of four children, Norma was born to Cornelia and Adolph Qualheim on July 25, 1926, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  She passed away in Ogden, Utah at the age of 96 on March 16, 2023.  She is survived by four children Cynthia Young, Nancy (Ron) Caporale, Wayne (Stephanie) Swenseid, Thomas Swenseid, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Norma married her high school sweetheart, Bob Swenseid, on her 22nd birthday on July 25, 1948.  During their early years of marriage due to Bob’s career, Norma and Bob moved extensively and set up home in multiple locations including North Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Oregon, and California.  They happily retired in Magalia in 1991 where their son-in-law, Ron, helped them design and build a custom home.  They were active members of the Paradise Lutheran Church and after Bob’s passing in 2006, Norma continued as a church member and volunteered with the “ladies’ group” spending many hours sewing quilts for the annual church raffle and charity.

In 2016 Norma sold her treasured home on Wingate Circle and relocated in Chico to be near her daughter, Nancy.  In November of 2022 she moved to Ogden, Utah to live full time with her daughter, Cindy where she passed after a brief illness.

Norma was very passionate about family, loved to bake, sew clothes for herself and her girls, too many quilts to count and never turned down a chance to visit a casino often bragging about how lucky she was.  It was us, her family, that are the lucky ones to have her by our side for so many wonderful years always looking over our shoulders.  She will be missed, but we are happy she is free of pain and safe in the hands of God.

Norma will be laid to rest next to Bob in the Veterans Court of Honor, Glen Oaks Memorial Park, at 10 a.m., March 30, 2023.  A memorial service will be held at the Paradise Lutheran Church, Skyway and Luther Drive, Paradise, CA at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norma’s name to the American Heart Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
