Jean Wright

Obituary of Jean Marie Wright

Jean Marie Wright passed peacefully on April 9, 2023, surrounded by family and their love for her. She was 86 years old. She was born July 5, 1936 in New Rochelle, New York, to parents Robert Blair Watts and Phyllis Jane Robertson Watts. She was their only child. When she was young, just as the family was packed and ready to move from New York to Southern California, that last day before leaving, her father received his draft notice to serve our country. Jean and her mother moved anyway, with her father joining them after his military service was complete. While in high school, Monrovia Arcadia Duarte High School, also known as MAD High School, she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Gene Hilton Wright. As soon as she graduated from high school in 1954, they married and started their family in Arcadia, California. Together they raised three children, Laurie, Kyle and Karen. Jean’s primary interest was always her family. She had a creative flair for knitting and folk art painting. At one point she collaborated with talented and well known ceramicist Burt Kesinick to market his ceramic animal pieces into sellable garden art. Jean also loved German Shepherd dogs, and over her life, owned many. The welfare of all animals was important and very dear to her heart. In the 90’s she and Gene moved to Chico to be in closer Northern California proximity to their three grown children and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gene, whom she was married to for 66 years. She is survived by daughter Laurie Moore and son-in-law Paul Moore, granddaughter Megan Moore Fox, her husband Jef Fox and great grandchildren Wyatt Fox and Oliver Fox, and grandson Paul Moore Jr., and son Kyle Wright and daughter in law Susan Wright and grandson Christopher Chadwick and his husband Remo Coghill and grandson Chad Chadwick, and daughter Karen Rosen and son inlaw William Rosen and grandchildren Leslie Rosen and Michael Rosen. Our family has gratitude to our friends and all those in the Chico community who supported both of our parents Jean and Gene. The family thanks long time family physician Dr. Stephen Peterson and PA Debbi Peterson for their committed care. Our family also thanks Enloe Hospice for their care and compassion in Mother’s last year. Dementia is a cruel disease. And finally, much appreciation to Bill Carson and John Burghardt for their wisdom, guidance and family concern. Mom was wonderfully unique and her love of her family and care for all animal welfare never wavered even in her final days. For those wishing to make memorial donations the family suggests the Butte Humane Society, 13391 Garner Lane, Chico, CA. Private burial services will be at Glen Oaks Memorial Park with Brusie Funeral Home. Mom, we love you, at last you can be a peace with Dad, your Christian faith assured you that you would see him again with all your beloved pets in heaven.
