Regina Guffy

Obituary of Regina Johanna Guffy

Regina Johanna Eleanora Bergerson Guffy passed away peacefully after 102 remarkable years on June 7, 2023, at her home in Chico, California. Born February 19, 1921, in Madison, South Dakota, Regina was selfless, loving, caring, and a great baker who cared deeply for her loved ones and was adored by all who knew her. Regina is survived by her three sons: Robert (Annette) Guffy, Richard Guffy, and Phillip (Kerry) Guffy; her cherished grandchildren, Jason (Whitney Bernstein) Guffy, Robert (Mary) Guffy, Gina Guffy, and Kim (Scott) Begbie; and six wonderful greatgrandchildren. Regina was one of twelve, with six sisters and five brothers, whom all predeceased her. Regina was adventurous and brave, moving from South Dakota to California in 1940 when she was just 19 years old to be with her sister, Jane. Regina lived in Santa Cruz and then moved to Renton, Washington for Western Union School. She worked for Boeing as a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. Regina married Cecil Guffy on December 29, 1944. They settled in Chico, living happily together and raising their family for the next 58 years until his death on January 17, 2002.

Regina is remembered as, above all else, a fundamentally good person – an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who would do anything for anyone and steadfastly loved and helped those around her.
