Cheryl Tarter

Obituary of Cheryl Frances Tarter

We are sad to update you on the passing of Cheryl Tarter on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. She led an active life, in spite of many life-threatening health challenges. She and hubby of 44 years, Bruce Tarter, have lived in Chico, CA, for 18 years and were avid SF Giants fans. They watched every game sitting in their respective recliners, commenting on the plays, the players, and the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the team’s managers. Prior to living in Chico, Cheryl & Bruce lived in Healdsburg, CA, for 25 years, where Cheryl was Director of Client Services for the Healdsburg Senior Center. In addition to Cheryl being survived by her husband, Bruce Tarter, she is also survived by her sons, Eric & Marc Newport, her grandchildren, Paige & Everette Newport, her sister, Deborah Joy Miley, her brother, David Miley & his wife, Judy Miley, her niece, Jessica Hanley & husband, Robert Hanley and her great nephew, Robby Hanley, and her niece Melissa Edwards & her husband, Justin Edwards and her great niece Miley Edwards. Cheryl was part of a closely-knit family—very involved with the activities of the younger generations. She had a quick wit and was a great hugger. Cheryl will be sorely missed. Cheryl, we request wherever you are that you give good counsel to the flagging SF Giants! We need some wins! A celebration of her life will be set and communicated at a later time. In lieu of flowers, we are grateful for contributions to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of California, reachable at: 323-887-0056.
