Obituary of Teresa Houar
On July 25, 2023 Teresa Caroline Houar passed peacefully at her home in Forest Ranch, CA. Teresa was born in Roseville, CA to Crescencio and Maria Hernandez on November 9, 1928. She was one of 11 Hernandez children.
Teresa retired from the position of Clerk-Typist II, after working for the State of California for 30 years. During her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, baking, reading, quilting and watching rerun episodes of Golden Girls. Her favorite color was pink and she loved pink roses, hydrangeas, bearded irises, and the orchids her sons gave her. She was proud of her home.
She was mother to Michael Houar, Matthew Houar, and Mary Houar Rhoades. Grandmother of 10 Michelle, Matthew Jr., Genevieve, Levi, Anthony, Maria, Cole, Michael, Matthew, and Mateo. Teresa was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. Her time spent with her family brought her joy. She greatly enjoyed hosting family dinners in her home.
Teresa was a inspiration to those who knew her. She would speak often of her journey away from home, when she moved to San Francisco as a young woman. She accomplished much during a time when society resisted women in the role of a working, independent, single mother. She was a woman with strong beliefs and a strong spiritual foundation. She never accepted welfare, avoided alcohol, and never remarried after divorcing her husband. Teresa was not afraid to speak out with her opinions about the benefit of strong values and about right way to live life. Teresa was a positive force in the lives of her family. Her legacy will live on with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Teresa will be greatly missed by her family. Teresa was a devout Catholic and loved the Lord. A Funeral service with Mass will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Chico, located on E. Lassen Ave. The Mass Service will begin at 10:00 am, with the burial at Glen Oaks Cemetary to follow immediately afterward.
