Obituary of Michael Golick

Michael E. Golick passed peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2023, the day after his 84th birthday which he celebrated with family. Michael was born to Charles and Dolores Golick in San Jose. He grew up in Sunnyvale, attending Catholic schools and Bellarmine Prep School. He went to San Jose State University, graduating in 1963, with a degree in Industrial Engineering. In 1968, he led a group of high school students on a bicycle tour through Europe. In 1970, he moved to Napa Valley to pursue a career in the wine industry, working in the cellars, then moving into wine sales. He established Allynwood Wine Company in 1972, making a market for fine wines throughout northern California. He worked as an esteemed sommelier for several nationally recognized wine tastings. He retired to Ukiah, where he married his wife Anna Marie Stephens. Eventually, they moved to Chico.

He is survived by his wife Anna Marie Stephens of Chico, his sister Geraldine Pedesky of Honolulu, HI; his daughter Meighan Marquis of Grand Junction, CO; his son Marc (wife Gina) Golick of Santa Rosa; grandchildren Morgan Bendowski, Denver CO; Griffin Bendowski and Chloe Bendowski of Grand Junction, CO; granddaughter Makena Golick of Santa Rosa.

Michael loved gardening, cultivating orchids and roses. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, fishing and pheasant hunting with his loyal German Shorthair Pointers. He shared this lifelong passion with his friends, children and grandchildren. A highlight of his year was taking his grandchildren to Covolo to cut Christmas trees. He spent summers at Medicine Lake with family and his lifelong friend Charlie Jones. Michael enjoyed a full and adventurous life full of stunning nature, loving family and friends, good food and even better wine. Always with his faithful canine companion by his side.
