Obituary of Eric Neil Barkve

Eric passed away at Enloe Hospital, Chico, CA on October 9, 2023 at the age of 49, following a short illness.

Eric was born in Burlingame, CA on September 20, 1974, son of James and Jean Barkve. They lived in Pacifica, CA until Eric was 3 months old, when the family moved to Chico, CA.

Eric graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1993 and then attended Chico State University with a major in computer science. He worked at the Bookstore computer section and met and fell in love with Jessica Cooper. They married in Folsom, CA, on October 30, 2004. They lived in the San Jose area for 20 years during which time Jessica taught school in Cupertino and Eric was employed with Apple.

While attending college, he was recruited by Apple Computer Co. and worked at the Apple retail store in Berkeley. He subsequently attained the position of “Mac Genius.” He then transitioned to Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, advancing to a management position and later to an executive position as Director of IOS Support Engineering. He was employed with Apple for 20 years, retiring in June of 2022. The family made the decision to move to Chico, CA in 2023, to be closer to family and friends.

Eric is survived by his wife Jessica and their two sons Cooper, 14 and Logan, 13; parents James and Jean Barkve; in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. Dixie, the family dog, will miss him greatly.

A celebration of Life will take place on November 4, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Barkve residence; 14041 Limousin Drive, Chico CA.
