Obituary of Leona Strom

A funeral service will be held for Leona Marie Whitehead Strom on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home. Leona passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Roseville. She was born March 25, 1915 in Leon, Wisconsin to Henry and Louise Whitehead. On March 20, 1938 Leona married Elsworth "Al" Strom. They moved to Chico in 1949 with their five children but often traveled back to Wisconsin to visit family. In 1964, they moved to Durham where they lived until the death of her beloved husband, Al in 1980. She moved to Carmichael in 1986 to be near family. Leona enjoyed the beautiful flowers and birds in her garden. She made intricate needlepoint pillows and wall hangings. Leona was rarely beat at Scrabble and was excellent at crossword puzzles. She enjoyed playing golf with Al. Most of all, she loved hosting family gatherings in her home. She worked for Victor Industries and Pacific Bell. Leona was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Our Divine Savior Catholic Church and Butte Creek Country Club. During the years her children attended Notre Dame School, she was a member of the Norte Dame Guild. Her survivors include her sons, Brian (Doris) Strom of Roseville and Don (Barbara) Strom of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Elaine (Steve) Hamilton of Carmichael and Cyndy East of Chico; sister, Joyce Rushing of Fairfield; brothers, Lewis (Evelyn) Whitehead of Sparta, WI and Glen (Marie) Whitehead of Cashton, WI; brother-in- law, Roger (Joan) Strom of Sparta, WI; sister-in-laws, Amanda Whitehead of Redwing, MN and LaVerne Fuenger of Sparta, WI; daughter-in-law, Susie Marin of Princeton; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Strom; sisters, Clara Hanson and Kathryn Bernhardt; brothers, Leo Whitehead and William Whithead and her son, Elswoth "Al" Strom, Jr. The family would like to recognize Titilea "Titi" Vuibau for her years of compassionate and loving care during Leona's illness. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday morning, April 3, 2008 at Brusie Funeral Home.
