Obituary of Dorothy Massie

A rosary for Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Massie, 70, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Brusie Funeral Home; viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church with a reception following. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. April 30, 2009 at Chico Cemetery. Dottie was born November 30, 1938 to Joseph and Rose Enos in Willows, CA; she passed away peacefully April 20, 2009, at her Chico home. Dottie was raised on her family's dairy farm in Willows, and attended Glenn County schools. After graduating from high school, Dottie moved to Sacramento to work for the State of California. While there, she met Bill Massie and his fabulous ?56 Ford they were married in 1958 in Willows. The young couple moved to Vallejo, and in 1959 they became the proud parents of daughter, Jeanne, and in 1967 son, Jeffrey joined the family. In 1963, Bill was offered a position at the Disability Insurance office in Chico, so the family moved to Chico, where they remained until Dottie's final days. Dottie worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses throughout her life, and later provided administrative services for Notre Dame School. She was active in Catholic Daughters, the Chico Portuguese Holy Ghost Club, and the Elks R.V. Group. She assisted her husband with many SIRS and RV travel events, and took extension classes when the couple wasn't away traveling. Always proud of her Portuguese heritage, Dottie made efforts to attend festas in various towns, and enjoyed sharing stories with the older attendees. In 1998, the couple retired from work responsibilities and took up their next job "world travelers". Besides visiting many beautiful U.S. travel spots, including Niagara Falls, Mackinac Island, New Orleans, Savannah, Washington D.C., Hawaii and Alaska, Dottie also toured many wonderful foreign countries with her husband: Hungary, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, France, England, Scotland, Nova Scotia, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, and Canada. Dottie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill; daughter, Jeanne Martin and son-in-law, Paul Hopkins of Lake Oswego, OR; three grandsons, Troy, Ryan and Cal; sister, Evelyn Funke of Willows; and brother, Joe Enos of Half Moon Bay. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Massie in 1984, and parents Joseph and Rose Enos.
