Obituary of Dorothy Wells

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico for Dorothy Anna Wells. Dorothy passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 in Chico. She was 82. Born September 8,1926 in Brooklyn, New York to William Joseph Hayes and Juliana Etzrodt Hayes. She worked for the Pacific Telephone Company for 25 years in Quincy, Sacramento, and in Oroville. She was a past member of Alpha Beta Chapter of Omega Nu and the Sacramento Retinitis Pigmentosa Support Group. She graduated from the Hadley School for the Blind. Before losing her sight, she enjoyed needlework of all kinds, crafts, and gourmet cooking. She also loved a good joke and watching Jeopardy. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Gould of Charlotte, NC; son, David Howery of Queensland, Australia; daughter, Claudia Goebl and son-in-law Jim Goebl of Oroville; grandchildren, Erin Sheffield (Brennan) of Chico, Jason Goebl (Nichol) of Campbell, CA, Amanda Goebl of Oroville, Jefferson Howery of San Francisco, CA. and Alexandra Elliott- Howery of Sidney, Australia; and five great-grandchildren. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Dorothy's name may do so to the Hadley School for the Blind or to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, in care of the Brusie Funeral Home.
