Obituary of Gene Dallagiacomo

A Professor - A Philosopher Gene Lynn Dallagiacomo of Chico CA passed away on May 31st at the age of 68 while at a friend's home in Oroville, CA Gene was born September 11th, 1940 in West Wood, California, a small mining town in Northern California. Gene was the Son of the late Lynn & Alice Dallagiacomo. Following high school Gene went on to receive his Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, from California State University, Chico. He was a Licensed Marriage, Family and Child Counselor in the State of California. He first taught at Shasta Junior Collage, in Redding CA. When Butte Community College opened in 1968 he was offered and accepted a position as a Professor and Head of the Psychology Department, where he continued to teach up to the day of his death. While teaching at Butte Collage Gene, went on to complete his PHD. Throughout the years he also taught psychology classes at California State University, Chico. Gene's face, once seen, could never be forgotten. His features were quite marked: The large Roman nose, overhanging brows above the deepest set blue eyes that could only be seen, in certain lights, and in others gray, eyes expressive of all shades of feeling, but never weak or near-sighted; his forehead full of concentrated energy and purpose; the mouth with gentle lips, pursed up with meaning and thought when silent, and giving out when open with the most varied and unexpected insights. Nothing was more loved by Gene then teaching, for him, brining the light of knowledge into the world was a sacred calling, one he embraced with all his heart. Gene believed that if we could all learn effective communication skills, we would be able to get along and appreciate each other, without regard to race, creed color gender or choice of partners. He touched the lives of countless students over the years, and made this world a better place. Gene's spiritual state comforts us because years and years ago he 'transcended' the physical and empirical and was realized through extraordinary intuition and his love of nature, rather than through mores or doctrines... We believe NOW in giving him our hearts we are giving him a place to rest from time to time on his new journey and his words will come back to us, as we continue to gain insight into ourselves. Gene Dallagiacomo is survived by his wife Carolyn; his step daughter Leora; his Son his son Joshua; his three daughters; Vicki, Carol, & Diana, along with numerous Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren; his brother Richard and his sister Lyndell; A memorial services will be held in Bidwell Park at the 1-Mile Dame at the Girl Scouts Stone Circle (behind caper acres) on Saturday June 27th at 9:00 a.m. This service is open to anyone who would like to show their last respects to this amazing person.
