Obituary of Roberta Smith

Roberta was born in Alliance, OH., April 18,1927 to the late Harry and Mildred Stewart. She passed June 4, 2009 in Chico, CA after an extended illness with both heart and Alzheimer's disease. Roberta is survived by husband of 62 years, Stanley Smith of Chico and primary caregiver. Also surviving is brother Raymond Stewart of Tehachapi, three sons, Steven of Snohomish, WA., Richard of Chico, James of Willits, and daughter Janice Downes of Laytonville, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and home maker, Roberta assisted Stan in private businesses including pilot care service, Cottage Motel owner, Portola Laundromat owner, and Chico walnut grower. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, pinochle, and cross country travel along the Pacific coast during Autumn colors. Extended trips included visiting old school friends in OH and PA with stops in Nashville for the Grand Ol Opry and General Jackson riverboat cruise. Roberta was an active member of the First Christian Church for 56 years. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Northern California Veteran Cemetery, Igo, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to local charities or church of choice.
