Obituary of Yvonne Killingsworth

Yvonne Killingsworth passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 20, 2009. Yvonne was a resident of Durham for 45 years. Yvonne was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on December 31, 1931. In 1952, she married the love of her life, John "Bud" Killingsworth. They were married for 59 years and raised two children, Greg and Debbie. After graduating high school in Alameda, California in 1950, Yvonne came to Chico and worked at Montgomery Ward. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Gus Gore Construction Company until she began her career at Durham High School. During her 26 years at Durham High School, she was awarded Secretary of the Year in 1984, and was Treasurer for California School Employees Association. She was also very active in her children's lives as she was Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Leader for Brownie Scouts, President of PTA, and a Sports Booster for many years. After retiring in 1993, Yvonne and Bud enjoyed traveling many miles to see their grandchildren participate in many activities. As much as she enjoyed her professional career, Yvonne cherished her children and grandchildren dearly and being a mother was the most important job she had. Yvonne is survived by her husband, John Killingsworth of Durham; son, Greg Killingsworth (Lynn) of Chester; daughter, Debbie Patrich (Gregg) of Arizona; brother, Ron Chrisco (Gena) of Reno; six grandchildren, Katrina Zunino (Chase) of San Ramon, Amber Patrich of Sacramento, Shay McDonald (Ryan) of Portland, Kristine Collins (Casey) of Chico, Todd Killingsworth of Portland, and Brian Killingsworth of Tahoe. Yvonne is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Rocco, Siena, and Secily Zunino and Liam and Ella McDonald. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Brusie's Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
