Obituary of Tony Nevis

Tony Nevis Tony L. Nevis was born September 27, 1913 in Chico to Joe Sr. and Mary Nevis. He was called to be with the Lord on January 14, 2010. Tony was raised by immigrant farming parents who taught him strong work ethics. Therefore he became a fair, honest, friendly and kind person. His gift of laughter and the twinkle in his eye will be truly missed. During WWII he worked at the airport with civil service, then enlisted in the Army from 1943-1946. Before purchasing his own orchard he operated his fathers. He was mechanically talented, creating equipment in his shop. Tony was a proud member of the Portuquese community. He was a devoted Catholic who shared his parents devotion to the Rosary. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Tony and Mary enjoyed fishing, crabbing, clamming and abalone diving. He held fond memories of trips to the Azore Islands, Portugal, and Brazil with side trips to Brasilia, Argentina and Paraguay. He is survived by his wife Mary of 54 years, three nieces, one sister in law and two brother in laws. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Joe Nevis Jr., sister Mary Emily Valine, and nephew Mike Valine Jr. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening January 20, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10a.m. on Thursday January 21, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Catholic Relief Society or a charity of choice in care of the funeral home.
