Obituary of Betty Thorpe

BETTY JEAN THORPE Betty passed away peacefully on July 11, 2010 at Enloe Medical Center, with her family at her side. She was born April 25, 1939 in Paradise, Kansas to John and Wenona Stout and moved to Paradise, California at the age of 3. She graduated from Chico High School in 1957. Betty married Rodney Ferrel, with whom she had a daughter, Sheree, before Rodney's unfortunate death in Alaska in 1961. In 1965 she married Jack Thorpe and had two sons, Nathan Wade and Matthew John. For most of her married life Betty was a homemaker. Betty and Jack raised their family in Durham where she enjoyed attending her children's school and athletic activities. For a period of time she operated her own beauty salon in Durham. She was very proud to be a part of that community while living there. Betty and her husband Jack later moved to Paradise, California and then to Chico, California in 2006. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patty. Betty is survived by her husband, Jack Thorpe; daughter, Sheree Ferrel, both of Chico and son's, Wade (Kim) and Matt (Jessica) and five grandchildren, John, Joseph, Janelle, Natalie and Abigail, all of Durham, California and her brother, David Stout (Veronica) of Langlois, Oregon and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Kingdom Hall at 7 p.m., 10 Honey Run Road, Chico, CA. A private family service will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Betty's name, may be made to the charity of your choice, c/o Brusie Funeral Home.
