Denny Bruce was one of the single most influential mentors I ever had in my life. When I went to see him I was in the worst spot I had ever been in. Not only did Denny help me out of this place but he gave me tools that I will use for the rest of my life and that I will pass on to other people. I am so very grateful that I was able to know him for the time that we worked together. The kind of person you hope for in a therapist and a friend. The world is a better place for having had Denny in it.

So good to know the two of you. Denny and I served on the Juvenile Justice Commission together. This required planning meetings (breakfast and coffee of course). After that we had regular lunches and shared email jokes. I will miss his smile and hearty laugh. Sue, my thoughts are with you.

Sue,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I was one of Denny's schoolmates and E-mail buddies and found that we had lots in common. He would always tell me of your trips, walks, long hicks, enjoyment of the out of doors, etc. My husband and I enjoyed the same areas that the two of you visited each year. I know you have many great memories.

Dear Sue and family,
My heart goes out to you. I just received an email of Denny's passing. He gave so much to so many people. We all had a lot of fun at your home. And when we first returned to Chico, Denny gave Phoebe a T-shirt that read "Juneau I live in Chico." It made her smile and started a lot of conversations. I deeply appreciate how you and Denny took care of Phoebe while Nick and I were in San Francisco for his surgery. As I recall she was getting sick when she went to your place, but was well when she got back home. You let her call me any time, gave her materials to draw with, and she said there was a little tin of candies by her bed that she enjoyed dipping into. When Nick was at home recovering, you two would stop by our place on your bikes for a cup of coffee most Saturday mornings. Denny made healing seem like casual fun. I am very grateful to have known him. My heart is with you.
Love, Linda

Our hearts go out to you. Denny was a special person for our family. Your comments in the paper brought to mind his word play jokes, always a favorite. As you know, his career influenced many in our community. We were fortunate to know him as a friend and neighbor. Every Thanksgiving we remember with a laugh his re-naming of our family's Crown Jewel Jello recipe the "Family Jewels".

Hi Sue; sorry to hear about your life's partner and your very difficult time. Denny invited me, sight unseen, to his back yard BBQ to meet the great people of Chico in April, 1971, my first day in California. He was so happy and spent much time introducing me to so many of his wonderful friends. He made me feel immediately at home. Thanks, Denny, for everything. You are already missed.

When I first met Denny, it wasn't a happy time in my life, and he absolutely terrified me. But in time, I grew to understand what he wanted for me, and that he truely cared about what happened to me and my family. Though the offeder isn't in my life any more, even he has to admit that it was majorly because of Denny that his life was turned around.
For all of those who you helped, including my family, I thank you, Denny. You will be sorely missed and thought of often.
