Obituary of Charles Copeland

CHARLES CECIL COPELAND Aug. 9, 1929 Nov. 10, 2010 Charles Cecil Copeland was born August 9, 1929 to Joseph and Dora Copeland in Paradise, CA. He lost his battle with cancer on November 10, 2010 in Paradise, CA. Charles was raised in Paradise on the family homestead on Copeland Rd. He was a graduate of Chico High School and Chico State University with a degree in Industrial Arts. He served as a tank commander in the Army during the Korean War. He married Irene Alice Peterson on June 12, 1955 in Paradise. He worked 38 years and retired from Cal Fire as a Battalion Chief. He was an avid agate hunter, spending many vacations on Agate Beach in Trinidad. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the High lakes with his family. After retirement, at the age of 55, he and Irene enjoyed many years in Arizona with the snowbirds, as well as several trips to Alaska with dear friends. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene of Paradise; son, Mike Copeland and wife of Paradise; daughter, Linda Van Winkle and husband of Sparks, NV; sister, Ruth Pfeffer of Paradise; brother, Clifford Copeland and wife of Mountaingate; sister-in-law, Lola Peterposten of Reno, NV and five grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Contributions can be made to the Paradise Hospice or Feather River Hospital Cancer Center, in Charles' name.
