Obituary of George Shelton

A Celebration of the life of "Skip" Shelton, 61 of Chico, will be held at a later date. Skip passed away Nov. 12, 2010 in Chico. He was born Oct. 26, 1949 in Redding, CA. Skip attended elementary school at Toyon Elementary, Summit City, CA and Cayucos Elementary in Cayucos, CA. He attended and graduated from Morro Bay High School in 1967. He attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, and Chico State College, graduating with a degree in Recreation Administration. Skip loved all sports. He played in softball leagues in Chico and Santa Cruz. He was an avid baseball fan of the San Diego Padres. Most of all, he loved golf. Skip played in tournaments all over California. He was a member of Tuscan Ridge Golf Club for a short time. He also was a member of the Kelly Ridge Men's Golf Club. Other memberships include the Santa Cruz Archers, Chico Chapter of S.I.R.S, the Butte County Historical Society, the San Diego Zoological Society, and the Wintun Indian Tribe of Shasta County. As a young man, he was in DeMolay in Morro Bay, CA. Skip worked for the State Park System in Old Shasta, Santa Cruz, Pismo Beach and Torrey Pines State Park in San Diego. He lived out of Chico since 1967, but returned permanently in 2004. He is survived by his companion, Ginger Ewalt of Oroville; his sister, Dorothy Lindsay and her husband, Jack of Gridley. Donations can be made in his memory to the Butte County Historical Society and Butte Humane Society.
