Obituary of John Wilson

JOHN B. "J.B." WILSON A Celebration of Life for J.B. will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Butte Creek Country Club. J.B. passed away on July 14, 2011 at Enloe Medical Center, following his battle with Cancer. He was born on December 4, 1932 in Sacramento, CA to James H. and Allene Wilson. He was 78 years of age. J.B. attended Chico High School and was a player on the 1950 Chico High Championship Basketball Team. He graduated in 1950. He went onto Chico State, where he lettered all four years in basketball, and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree. He did a tour of duty in the Army 1954 to 1956. On June 11, 1955, while still in the service, he married the love of his life, Evonne (Vonnie ) Steeg. J.B. was a very successful and prominent business man in the Chico community, ultimately retiring as owner of the Butte County Credit Bureau. He had a great love for Chico and was involved in many aspects of the community. He served on several Boards of Directors, including Mid-Valley Title, North State National Bank and Northern California National Bank. He was active in the Enloe Medical Center's development since it became a non-profit hospital in 1965, and served on the original Men's Association organization. He also served in many different capacities on various Enloe boards and committees throughout the years, including President of the Board of Directors at Enloe Medical Center and was recently given Emeritus Trustee status. In honor of J.B. and Vonnie's many years of service and contributions, the Enloe Gift Shop in the new hospital will be named after them. J.B. was an avid card player, loved playing and being a spectator in the game of golf, playing fantasy football since early 1970's, and most enjoyably watching his grandkids play sports and their activities. J.B. is survived by his wife, Vonnie; son, Jim Wilson of Durham; daughters, Susan Wheeler (Gary) and Patti Souza, both of Chico; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephen, Jeffrey, Emily, Rachel, Kelsey and Keaton, along with 4 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Enloe Foundation.
