Obituary of Daniel Cook

Dan Cook was the second born son to Lloyd and Emma Cook, October 25, 1934 in Chico, CA. Dan passed away, or as he would have said, completed his assignment on Earth, August 12, 2011 in Sacramento, CA, at the age of 76. Dan was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart and singular love of his life, Nell Dickey Cook for well over 50 years, that they had shared together since 1952. He was also devoted to his daughter Cynthia and granddaughter, Stephanie. Dan was an award winning Professional Civil Engineer and proprietor of Cook Associates Engineering Consultants, a private engineering company for more than 40 years, operating out of the Greater Oroville area and providing engineering services to all Northern California, Western Nevada and Southern Oregon. Dan was the recipient of the Samuel Norris Lifetime Achievement Award for improving the quality of life for more than 4.5 million people that use the systems and facilities that Dan designed and for which he supervised the physical implementation during his long career. Dan was particularly proud of his more than 30 years of work addressing the water issues of Truckee, California and the Lake Tahoe regions. Dan will also be remembered for his lengthly voluntary devotion to enhancing the employment opportunities and diversifying the economic base of the Greater Oroville Community as a founder and prime mover of the very successful, non-profit, Oroville Economic Development Corporation. Dan served 5 three-year terms as a Director of the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce and was a past President of the Oroville Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award, given for Public Service. Dan served in the U.S, Air Force, was an avid pilot and active in the experimental Aircraft Association, and recipient of the prestigious EAA Major Achievement Award in 2001. Dan leaves behind his wife, Nell Cook; daughter, Cynthia Cook Teague; granddaughter, Stephanie Teague Miles; and brother, Joe Cook, all of Chico. Dan had few social skills; however society at large benefited greatly from his engineering skills and tenacity to see the projects through to productive conclusions. In keeping with Dan's request, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oroville EAA Chapter 1112, c/o Brusie Funeral Home and Cemeteries of Chico.
