Obituary of Doris Laughlin

A private service will be held for Doris Elaine Christensen Laughlin, 88, of Chico. Doris passed away at home on August 18, 2011. She was born September 4, 1922 to Nels Anchor and Mabel Christensen in Egan, SD. The family moved to Chico in the 1920's where they ran the Christensen Dairy. In 1940 she graduated from Chico High School. Doris worked as a legal secretary for Erle Stanley Gardner and many other local attorneys. In 1955 she married Robert E. Laughlin in Chico. Doris was a member of the Bidwell Presbyterian Church since 1952, member of the Butte County Legal Secretaries, and Butte County Historical Society. When she was young she enjoyed bowling and playing softball. More recently she enjoyed reading and morning breakfast with her friends. Her survivors include her daughter Susan (Mel) Detmer; son Robert Laughlin of Chico; brother Nels (Karen) Christensen of Chico; sister Vivian Shaw of Chico; brother in law Om Wraith; two grandchildren, Matthew (Lucy) Detmer of New York, Amanda (John) Detmer of Southern California; two great grandchildren, Jake and Malibu and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert Laughlin in 1999 and her son William Laughlin in 2010. Donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army or Enloe Hospice in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
