Obituary of Perry Nethington

Graveside services for Perry W. Nethington of Chico will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Orland I.O.O.F Cemetery on County Rd. P in Orland. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chico. Perry passed away on August 26, 2011 in Chico. He was born on April 13, 1917 in Berryman, MO, to William Parker Nethington and Sadie Lee Rhodes. He quit school at 15 to help support the family. And at age 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After he was discharged, he worked in the steel industry and was a maintenance mechanic. He loved fishing and traveling. Perry was active in the Methodist Church and was trained to be a Lay Preacher. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Leva L. Wallis and his second wife, Miriam Shafer. Perry is survived by his son Bob L. Nethington; a sister, Fern Weintrout; a brother, Jerry Nethington; 8 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. A Viewing will be held on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. in the chapel of Brusie Funeral Home.
