Obituary of Richard Betts

RICHARD RAYMOND BETTS March 21, 1945 - Oct. 1, 2011 Richard Raymond Betts, 66 of Chico passed away on October 1st due to a heart attack. He was born in Ticonderoga, New York and moved to Chico in 1963. He is survived by his children Richard and Ronda Betts and grandson Luke Holt of Chico, his brother Steve Betts, his sisters Cindy Miller and Linda Mitchell of Orland, his sister Valerie Pugh of Chico and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond H. Betts and Ruby G. (Hurlbert) Betts of Orland. He served in the Chico National Guard U.S. Army's 82nd Airborn 4th Armored division during the Viet Nam era. During the 60's and 70's he was a fan favorite at the Chico Silver Dollar Speedway where he was known as "Rapid Rich" A memorial service will be held Oct. 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Hall, 554 Rio Lindo Ave. in Chico. The service will be followed by a potluck and a Celebration of Life. A private burial will be held at the Northern Calif. Veteran's Cemetery.
