Obituary of Winifred Stewart

A Private Service will be held for Winifred "Wini" Stewart, 91 of Chico. She passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 in Paradise. Wini was born February 21, 1920 in Lowell, Massachusetts. In 1942, she married Walter G. Balch. They moved to Southern California in 1948, Paradise in 1955, and to Chico in 1960. Wini worked as an orthodontic receptionist for 26 years. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Eaton Rd. Her interests included gardening, photography and cats. Wini was the great-granddaughter of Mark Kellogg, who was a newspaper correspondent that died at the battle of The Little Big Horn with General Armstrong Custer. Wini is survived by her two sons, Richard Balch of Chico and Ronald (Gloria) Balch of Chico; three grandchildren, Carlos, Jennifer and Stefanie; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Balch in 1989, and her second husband, Al David Stewart in 1993. Donations may be made to the Butte Humane Society, in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
