Anna Ethel Bach Sloan, 92, passed away on April 11, 2012. She was born March 5, 1920 in Chico, CA to Anna and Steven Bach. She lived a tranquil farm childhood among Italian, German and Portuguese neighbors, speaking all languages. She graduated from Chico High School and at 19, met and married her beloved husband, Lloyd Ivan Sloan. They enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage before he died in 1995. Active in sports, she was an expert swimmer, captain of a championship basketball team and part of a women's league baseball team. In 1941, the family, with newborn daughter, Shirley, moved to the Bay Area, where Anna found work for Southern Pacific Railroad, staying for 15 years. She also helped her husband start a contracting business. In 1955, they returned to Chico, buying a farm in Durham. Adding to the family, twins, Douglas and Donna were born in 1956. Anna actively participated on the ranch as homemaker, finance manager and worker until age 89. Her life centered on family, faith and friends, enjoying close, warm relations with all who came into her life. She served as treasurer of the Christian Women's Club for over 10 years and is a longstanding and cherished member of Mid-Valley Baptist Church. She hosted multiple social events and was always the first to volunteer to help others. Anna is mourned deeply by all who knew her.
