Obituary of Irene Hanschu

A memorial service will be held for Irene Elsie Hanschu, 88, of Chico, on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Irene passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at her home. She was born January 30, 1924 to Oliver and Elsie Allwardt in Chico. Irene was raised in Butte City and graduated from Princeton High School in 1942. She was working in Lodi picking grapes when she met Roland Hanschu. They married in 1944. They moved back to Butte City and then to Chico in 1953. Irene was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Butte County STARS. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, word games, playing cards and traveling. Her survivors include her husband, Roland of Chico; two daughters, Patricia (Carl) Foreman of Woodland, Kathleen (Ernie) Hillman of Chico; one brother, Donald Allwardt of Richmond; sister-in-law, Donna Allwardt of Yuba City; granddaughters, Amy (Glenn) Wykert of Thousand Oaks, and Julie (Kevin) Phelps of Woodland; great-granddaughters, Ashley, Elizabeth and Taya. Donations may be made in her memory to the Butte County STARS or the Redeemer Lutheran Church, in care of the Brusie Funeral Home.
