Obituary of Minnie Umber

MINNIE MEYERS UMBER A Funeral Service will be held for Minnie Umber on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Brusie Funeral Home. Minnie Meyers Umber was born August 4, 1915 in Sugar City, Idaho, the daughter of Charles Henry Meyers and Mary Ann Hamilton Meyers. She passed away June 12, 2012 in Chico, CA, at the age of 96. Minnie had five brothers, Marvin, Wayne, James, Lynne and John, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, James Stanley Umber; daughter, Penelope Umber Green; and her sister, Fern Meyers Clarke. She married Stanley Bybee Umber in Angola, Indiana September 25, 1942. Stanley passed away April 18, 2001 in Chico, CA. They were married 58 years. Minnie received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Idaho in 1937, at the age of 22. She taught Home Economics in Shoshone, Idaho for four years and worked in an airplane factory in Detroit, Michigan, where she met Stanley during WWII. After the war, she bore her children, then taught the 5th grade for 20 years in Chicago, Illinois and Newhall, CA. Minnie was a strong advocate of education and the acquisition of knowledge, an attribute she instilled in all her progeny. She loved to sew, but especially enjoyed reading, a pastime that served her well all her life. She loved her husband and family above all else. She will be greatly missed by her family, two children, eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She inspired us all. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home.
