Obituary of Rachel Brogden

A Viewing will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. followed by a service in the Chapel of the Brusie Funeral home at 11 a.m., followed by a reception also at the funeral home for Rachel Pauline Brogden. Mrs. Brogden passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, after a several month battle with cancer. She was 93. Born February 20, 1919 in Sparta, TN to Abe and Mary Elizabeth Greene Saylors. She married Theo "John" Brogden June 2, 1934. He preceded in death in 1999. During WWII Rachel worked in the shipyards in Alameda, CA as a welder building ships for the War effort . Rachel was a "master seamstress" she could make garments from the simplest to the most elaborate. She considered family to be of the upmost importance. She considered being a grandmother and honor, and was known as "Granny Goose" to her grandchildren. She is survived by children, Tom Brogden (Charla) of Paradise; Bonnie Hill (Richard) of Wellton, AZ; Jim Brogden (Darlene) of Chico, CA; Randy Brogden (Nicole) of ND; grandchildren, Mark Brogden (Beth) of Paradise, Scott Brogden (Kip) of Paradise; Eric Brogden (Karen) of Chico; Sheri Chaufty (Shawn) Marina, CA; Lance Brogden (Jeannie) of Chico, CA; John Brogden of Chico; Jamie (Bud) Walberg of Corning. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Bobby Hill. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in her name may do so to the Feather Canyon Retirement Living, or Paradise Hospice, or the American Cancer Society, in care of the Brusie Funeral Home in Chico.
