Obituary of Robert Quiring

A memorial graveside service will be held for Robert Paul Quiring, 82 of Chico, on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. He passed away quietly in his sleep on Monday, December 24, 2012 in Chico. Robert was born March 2, 1930 to Jacob and Anna Quiring in Chico. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served in Korea aboard the USS Philippine Sea until 1951. Robert worked for 53 years in wrecking yards in Chico. He enjoyed cutting and splitting firewood, bowling, and playing Bingo. He is survived by his wife Sharron Quiring of Chico; one daughter Pamela VanderVelden of Pittsburgh, PA; two sons, Laurence (Mary) Quiring of Chico, Thomas (Kathy) Quiring of Colusa; two step children Michael Baker of Chico and Deborah (Rick) Schortgen of Chico; two sisters, Helen (Fred) Harlan of Pahrump, NV and Betty (Monte) Parker of Bakersfield; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his sons Richard B. and Joseph E. Quiring; step daughter Kelly Lee; granddaughter Christina Martin; six brothers and one sister. Donations may be made in his memory to the Butte Humane Society in care of the Brusie Funeral Home.
