Obituary of Thelma Hostetler

Thelma Marie Hostetler, 89, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013 in Chico, with her family by her side. Thelma was born in Ketchikan, Alaska on December 2nd 1923 to Lyle and Laura Christenson. She moved to California, and at an early age started singing as a soprano for many local organizations and once sang at a bridge dedication. She graduated from Chico High School and later married her late husband Spencer Hostetler in 1949. Spencer was an ironworker and they traveled extensively throughout the United States on different job sites. They later settled in Durham where they bought an almond ranch and raised their three children. They enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam's Club in their motor home and met many wonderful friends. Thelma had faith in God, loved her family and would do anything for anyone if she could. She will be missed by all who knew her, for to know her was to love her. She was preceded in death by her husband Spencer Hostetler, and son Fred Hostetler (Collette) who passed away February 10th 2013 in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her brother Chris Christenson (Helen) from Sacramento, son David Hostetler (Sharlot), daughter Kathy Slightom (David), granddaughters Tina Bicknell (Greg) and Diana Hostetler, grand-sons, Owen Hostetler (Dennise), Travis Slightom (Kimmy), Brandon Hostetler, (Rachel), and Tim Slightom (Jen), three great grandchildren and a beloved friend Charlie Oster. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held Friday March 15th at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Durham Volunteer Fire Dept. or Women's Resource Clinic in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
