Obituary of Jean Elgart

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, for Jean Elgart. Mr. Elgart passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at a local care facility. He was 87. Born May 15, 1921 in Osses, France to Jean and Jeanne Elgart, in his early 20's he came to the United States and worked as a sheepherder in Wyoming and in Oregon for many years, before moving to California. He worked for Sam Lewis and Sons as a ranch Forman from 1971 until he retired in 1993. He married Arleen Cahoon February 7, 2006 in Oroville. Jean is survived by his wife, Arleene of Chico; two sisters here in the United States, Marie Jeanne Sallaberry and Marie Elgart; also three sisters in France, Kathleen, Mary Teresa, and Jenette; and a brother also of France, Jean Pierre Elgart; many nieces and nephews here and in France; also four step-children; and numerous grand and great- grand step-children. Burial will be at Chico Cemetery. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in his name, may do so to the Shiners Children's Hospital in care of the Bidwell Chapel.
