Obituary of Harold Ray Plaster

HAROLD RAY PLASTER Harold Ray Plaster passed away peacefully on March 11, 2010 at Chico Creek Care and Rehab in Chico, California. Harold was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma on February 20, 1922 to Henry and Bessie (Pride) Plaster. He was 88 years old. In 1928, when Harold was 6 years old, he and his family moved from Oklahoma to Livingston, California. He attended both grammar school and high school in Livingston. Harold did farm work, worked at the winery and the local post office until he was drafted into the Army on November 19, 1942 during World War II. He was a Sergeant in Company B, 92nd Signal Battalion and served in the 3rd Army under General Patton and in the 7th Army under General Patch. Harold served his country proudly and was in many battles. He landed on Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion and he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. After the Battle of the Bulge, Harold participated in the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp. From there, he was sent to the 7th Army and went to Hitler's hideout at Berchtesgaden, Germany. He was in Salzburg, Austria by the end of the war. Harold received a total of 5 combat stars for Normandy, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and Austria. After the war, Harold bought a home and settled in Chico for the rest of his life. He was a farmer, truck driver, and reserve Deputy Sheriff. He had a loving heart and took care of his parents until their passing, and also his sister Lucille for a period of time. He was a proud and active member of the VFW for many years. Harold loved the mountains and enjoyed going fishing, camping, and deer hunting up around Deer Creek. Harold was loved and respected by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bessie Plaster; brother, Glen Plaster; sister, Lucille Reid; nephew, Richard Reid, and niece, Sherri Plaster Edmiston. He is survived by his sister, Pauline (Jerry) Pierce, and many nieces and nephews. Harold will also be missed by his close friends and caring neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dawes. Service will be held at Bidwell Chapel on March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest, with military honors, in Chico Cemetery following the service.
