Obituary of Harold Elbert Bills

Harold Elbert Bills, 88, of Chico, California, passed away on April 11, 2010 in Hughson, California. Born to Burton and Elsie Bills, he was raised and educated in Orland, California and spent his early years working on the family dairy with his three older sisters and his brother. He married Melba Wickland of Orland in 1942 and continued dairying. He then worked in the trucking business prior to spending many years as an investment advisor in Chico serving clients all over northern California. Harold was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Chico and was also involved in Rotary for many years in Orland and Chico before moving to Hughson. He will be remembered for his boisterous laugh, his ability to make friends quickly, and his sweet spirit which persisted even through his protracted and difficult illness. He leaves his three daughters, Janice Luman of Denair, Barbara Besson of Lincoln and Kathleen Bills of Auburn, and his sister, Ethel Townsend of San Rafael; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba in 2001; his sisters, Frances and Mildred Brainard, and his brother, Melvin. While he has left us, our memories of his generosity will be with us forever. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Chico. Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Orland Oddfellows Cemetery.
